How it works

Altace belongs to a group of drugs called ACE Inhibitors. These work by widening the blood vessels and improving the flow of blood throughout the body.

Guidelines for usage

Follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor or as mentioned in the instruction booklet/product label.

Always use only as prescribed. Never exceed the dosage.

Altace may be used with or without food.

Doctors recommend that you swallow the whole tablet/capsules with a glass of water unless it is specified that it can be broken or chewed.

Safety Information/ Warning Precautions

Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider before you start using any new medication.

Ensure that you mention the following:

Using Alcohol

Altace is known to cause drowsiness or dizziness. Your vision may be blurred and your judgement affected if you consume alcohol with this medication. So, avoid using alcohol while using Altace.

These effects may also get aggravated due to hot weather or fever or severe exercise. So, be cautious when you stand up after a long time from a sitting or lying position. If you feel giddy then lie down immediately and seek medical help.

Possible Drug & Food Interactions

Certain prescription drugs or health supplements or even food items are known to interact with the effects of medications. Altace is known to have possible interactions with the following medications.

Additional Information

Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking Accupril, unless your doctor has told you to. Call your doctor if you have ongoing vomiting or diarrhea, or if you are sweating more than usual. You can easily become dehydrated while taking Accupril, which can lead to severely low blood pressure or a serious electrolyte imbalance. Tell your doctor if you have a prolonged illness that causes diarrhea or vomiting.

Salt substitute or potassium supplements must be avoided when you take Accupril. If you have constant diarrhea or vomiting or a prolonged illness that causes it, then it must be reported promptly to the doctor.

If your doctor has prescribed laboratory tests like kidney function then ensure that you do not miss out on them.

Important Information for Pregnant Women

Altace is categorized under FDA pregnancy category D.

Discuss the potential risks with your healthcare provider before using the medication.

Certain medications may be found in breast milk so speak to your child’s doctor to rule out any possibilities of risk.
Side Effects

Report the following side effects to your doctor only if they become bothersome or do not stop on their own

Tired feeling, headache;
Dizziness, spinning sensation; or
Nausea, vomiting

The following side effects require immediate medical attention. So report these to your doctor immediately.

Feeling like you might pass out;
High potassium level (slow heart rate, weak pulse, muscle weakness, tingly feeling;
Dry mouth, thirst, confusion, swelling, and urinating less than usual or not at all;
Pale skin, dark colored urine, easy bruising or bleeding;
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, sores in your mouth and throat.
