How it works
Azulfidine's exact mechanism of action is yet unknown. However it is believed to act on blood PH levels by decreasing acidity that leads to inflammation on the intestinal walls as well as joints in ulcerative colitis and Rheumatoid Arthritis respectively. Guidelines for usage Follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor or as mentioned in the instruction booklet/product label. Always use only as prescribed. Never exceed the dosage. Azulfidine may be used with or without food. Doctors recommend that you swallow the whole tablet/capsules with a glass of water unless it is specified that it can be broken or chewed. NOTE: Use only if prescribed to you and intended for your use. Do not share with others. Missed Dose It is common for people to forget their dosage times and miss doses. These effects may also get aggravated due to hot weather or fever or severe exercise. So, be cautious when you stand up after a long time from a sitting or lying position. If you feel giddy then lie down immediately and seek medical help. Possible Drug & Food Interactions Certain prescription drugs or health supplements or even food items are known to interact with the effects of medications. Azulfidine is known to have possible interactions with the following medications • Digoxin (Digitalis, Lanoxin), Folic Acid (Folicin, Fa-8), Or Vitamin Or Mineral Supplements That Contain Folic Acid Hence please inform your physician about the above drugs. Additional Information Azulfidine may also cause serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding or perforation (forming of a hole). These conditions can be fatal and can occur without warning while you are taking ibuprofen, especially in older adults. Excessive use of NSAID medications can cause serious damage to the stomach and intestines. Internal bleeding and even perforation may occur. These conditions are potentially fatal and can occur at any time without a warning. If you notice symptoms like black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, then stop using Azulfidine and seek emergency medical care. Important Information for Pregnant Women Azulfidine is categorized under FDA pregnancy category B. Discuss the potential risks with your healthcare provider before using the medication. Certain medications may be found in breast milk so speak to your child’s doctor to rule out any possibilities of risk.
Side Effects
Report the following side effects to your doctor only if they become bothersome or do not stop on their own • Mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach; • Loss of appetite; • Headache, ringing in your ears; • Dizziness, spinning sensation; • White patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips; • Sleep problems (insomnia); or • Mild itching or skin rash. • The following side effects require immediate medical attention. So report these to your doctor immediately. • Fever, sore throat, or other flu symptoms; • Pale skin, easy bruising; • Dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); • Pain or burning when you urinate; • Urinating less than usual or not at all; • The appearance of a whole tablet in your stool; or • Fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash. |
